Fabrizio Sclocco
Born 1989, Pescara, Italy, architecture drop-out. Moved to Toronto in 2012, where the sense of displacement increased and reflected in my latest work. He has exhibited in Padua, Bologna, London, Milan, New York, Toronto, among other locations.
A hybrid mix of abstract & figurative oil & mixed media paintings revisited in a contemporary way, extrapolating the egoic mind, our fears, desires, compulsions and habits through strong themes of nostalgia, traditions, belonging and the essence of emotions as an expatriate.
He examines the connections between understanding the sensations of everyday life, and how past experiences influence our current emotions. The composition of the work relies heavily on the intentional use of negative space, symbolizing moments of pure consciousness amidst the push and pull of thought and emotion. Pure and emphatic lines of ink and graphite illustrate recent emotions and reactions. Colours find their purposeful place in hyperrealistic illustrations of symbols. Contrary to the contouring lines of emotions, the elaborate brush strokes of intellectual memory reflect deeper, rooted behaviour that are more developed rather than fleeting. These symbols of intellect are combined with classical architecture components to create new opportunities for interpretation and allow access to the structures of the mind.
As he continues to develop my expression, he works towards bridging the gap between the conscious and unconscious mind as the egoic self is unveiled and examined.
